Are you wondering how the internet can be of value to your business, organization, group or other entity, whether small or large? The Internet is used by a large percentage of people everyday, and including that marketing channel into your business model could be advantageous. If you are thinking about starting a website for your organization, start with this introductory class that will help you understand the basics. We will guide you to help determine what kind of web site you need, what are the potential costs of web sites, and when to do it yourself or hire a professional design and development firm. Learn some tips on how to find a web development team you can trust as well as basic terms of the different elements of a web site, from domain registration to hosting, to design. Basic social networking terms will be introduced as well as how they can integrate into a web site.

Internet beginners and business owners unfamiliar with web site are encouraged to attend. Since this class is a business overview and guide to how to get a web site, we will not include web design techniques or tools.What kind of web site should you build?

MONICA ZIMMERMAN is co-owner of ConnectNC, Inc, a technology provider in Southern Pines. For the past 8 years she and her team have developed, designed, hosted and optimized web sites for search engines. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems in 1990. Since 1987 she has been working in the information technology field. She started her career at Nationwide Insurance headquarters writing computer programs for investment life insurance in Cobol in the 1990’s then quickly moved to writing sql programs for Oracle relational databases, as well as designing databases.

As a consultant for Unisys Corporation in Chicago, she specialized in imaging systems and Oracle database development. Monica was a member of one of the first teams presenting 3 tier client server architecture / rapid application development (a precursor to the current web architecture) to an audience of professionals at MIT. As IT manager for Computer Literacy Bookshops, and IT consultant at Bank One, Nationwide Insurance and American Electric Power, Monica implemented data warehouses utilizing Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases. Since 1999, she has worked in the areas of web analytics and web development.

Monica is active many professional and local organizations including: Founder of SandhillsKids, LLC and Girl Scout Leader 5th year.
